Cologne, September 12, 2017 -
Enjoying an extensive breakfast does not only mean the ideal start to the day for many Germans. This was the result of a current HRS analysis. Hotel bookings with or without the first meal of the day were examined in an international comparison.

On average, guests have breakfast in German hotels for 12.80 euros, in Europe as a whole the price is 11.90 euros and worldwide 10.50 euros. Looking at prices in individual cities shows another trend: In this comparison, Amsterdam is the most expensive city in Europe. There, the first meal of the day in a hotel costs an average of 17.40 euros, Singapore is at the top worldwide with 18.30 euros and in Germany Munich is ahead with 13.60 euros.

In five-star hotels, travelers eat their breakfast at significantly different prices: In Germany, hotel guests pay an average of € 27.30, in neighboring European countries € 22.60 and worldwide € 17.50. On the other hand, the price difference in four-star hotels is considerably smaller: guests in German and European hotels eat the meal in the morning for an average of 13.70 euros, and worldwide the price is even lower at 13.00 euros.

For evaluation: HRS evaluated the room bookings with and without breakfast. The costs in the star categories one to five as well as in different regions and international cities were used. Observation period: January 1, 2016 to August 16, 2017. The cut-off date for the survey was August 16, 2017.
