Hanover, July 5, 2017 -
A vocational qualification including international experience in just 22 months: Leo Kujawa (21) is enthusiastic about the hotel industry. The young man completed his training at the Mercure Hotel Hannover City and is now studying part-time at FOM. He explains what drives him in an interview with HOTELIER TV & RADIO. Hotel director Ulrich Heim emphasizes: In the hotel you learn for life.

The Abitur makes it possible: at the Mercure Hotel Hannover City, trainees obtain the professional qualification in the hotel business in less than two years. The international network of AccorHotels enables internships abroad. “I really want to work abroad” - Leo Kujawa already had this goal as a student. “However, I wanted to start studying right after I finished high school. At first I didn't think of training. But the possibilities at the Mercure Hotel Hannover City convinced me. ” The decisive arguments for the 21-year-old Hanoverian: "The short training period of less than two years, the security of always being able to access this training and the internship abroad during the training period."

Four weeks internship in Toronto
After 22 months, Leo Kujawa has now completed his training in the hotel business. “The highlight was clearly my internship at the Novotel Toronto.” For four weeks, Kujawa gained valuable practical experience in the largest city in Canada. Ulrich Heim, director of the Mercure Hotel Hannover City, organized the internship at the Novotel Toronto. The Novotel brand, like Mercure, belongs to the leading travel and lifestyle group AccorHotels. "The worldwide network of AccorHotels offers many advantages in this regard," says Heim, who knocks regularly with his international colleagues. For example, a trainee was an intern in London and got her tools for Australia there.

Off to Edinburgh
The next trainee trip is already imminent: Lea Boehme is about to jump into the Scottish capital Edingburgh. The technical high school graduate initially completed a two-week internship at the Mercure Hotel Hannover City, which strengthened her intentions: "The great advantage of the hotel business for me is that I can work abroad and that there are good career opportunities." “Training in knowledge of human nature” Ulrich Heim finds it easy to convince high school graduates of the advantages of training in the hotel business. "Where else can you learn to deal with people in so many different ways, in a wide variety of situations and with numerous nationalities and cultures? We have an education in human knowledge, so to speak - an excellent basis for any other employer. ”

In addition to the highlight of the internship abroad, training at AccorHotels offers additional extras: a trainee excursion with two overnight stays is on the program for each training year. The trainees then become hotel guests themselves - in metropolises such as Berlin, Hamburg or Munich. The culinary knowledge is regularly expanded, for example through barista or chocolate workshops. There is also training in style and etiquette. Attractive prizes and exclusive participation in the traineeship program await the winners of the AccorHotels trainee award. Last but not least, the trainees benefit from a remuneration that is currently being upgraded by a bonus payment of a maximum of ten percent of the annual salary - plus a special payment for Christmas. "The most important thing for our young employees," emphasizes Ulrich Heim, "is the great working atmosphere in our company, the appreciation and cooperation at eye level as well as the feeling of being very well trained for the future."
